McDonald's Not Just Fries
Jakarta – McDonald’s Corp. will begin offering free internet access in the restaurant. Offer it as part of a network transformation from fast food hamburger hang-out destination.
Starting in mid-January, McDonald’s in the United States would remove the cost of U.S. $ 2.95 to customers for a two-hour wireless Internet access. The service is available in about 11,000 of the 14,000 locations in the U.S., said McDonald’s Chief Information Officer David Grooms, USA.
McDonald hopes that free Internet can encourage customers to hang out in between meals, and attract customers who usually drink coffee.
Food Network also plans to sell other foods in mid-2010 to attract customers during the hours of snacking.
Grooms said the decision was as part of the evolution of McDonald’s into a “destination,” where customers see it as more than a place to get a Big Mac or fries.
“We’re going to be ‘objective’ and free wi-fi is a natural fit,” he said. “This is a long term investment that we see will help McDonald’s to remain relevant as a brand in the market.
